Palmer Luckey departs Oculus Inc
In news that may sadden a lot of VR veterans, Oculus creator and founder Palmer Luckey has left Oculus Inc. Luckey is credited with the creation of the prototype Oculus Rift which eventually became the VR headset to propel the industry into the mainstream and enable the current generation of VR experiences.
In a statement on Facebook, Oculus stated:
“Palmer will be dearly missed. Palmer’s legacy extends far beyond Oculus. His inventive spirit helped kickstart the modern VR revolution and helped build an industry. We’re thankful for everything he did for Oculus and VR, and we wish him all the best.”
Luckey became embroiled in some political issues after supporting the Trump presidential run, which led to media silence from him over the past few months. Oculus did state that he would be filling in a new role but the news that he is no longer with the company was not unexpected.
We wish Palmer the best in the future and look forward to hearing more from him in the future.
