Carmack explains “Cylindrical TimeWarp Layers”

GearVR users are in for a treat.

John Carmack has always been very transparent about his creations, and his post on Facebook is no less revealing (and awesome), explaining a new feature of the Oculus runtime system used in the latest version of Oculus Home on Gear VR – Cylindrical Timewarp Layers.

Most people think “VR just looks that way (bad)” because that is all they see. I finally have a pretty good example to show what we should get.

This new rendering combined with a controller for Gear VR users looks like mobile VR is shaping up to become a major main interest in the near future.
